Awards
On Saturday 14th, October 2006, on board of the Italian Navy ship Palinuro moored in Genoa seaport, the editor in chief of Mondo Sommerso Sabina Cupi awarded a prize, consisting of a silver medal stroked exclusively for this event, the authors of the portfolios published on the 500 special issue of Mondo Sommerso. This publication is an historic issue which celebrate the almost 50 years of activity of a worldwide known magazine, pioneer for the underwater world. On the 500 issue have been published 18 portfolios showing some of the best images of some of the most famous underwater photographers of the world, as David Doubilet, Amos Nachoum, Lionel Bozzoli, etc.. Also Leonardo Olmi is part of them.
Underwater Photo contests
Up to now, Leonardo Olmi won the first and the only underwater photo contest he took part to, held on Grand Cayman in the Caribbean during the summer of 1993. It was named “Blue Underwater Photo Competition”.
Leonardo Olmi awarded a prize from CUBA
Last February, in occasion of BIT 2006, the Tourism Board of Cuba has organized a festival called “Noche Cubana” held at the Gran Visconti Palace Hotel in Milan. At the presence of the Vice Minister of Tourism, it was announced the “Todos Estrellas” of 2005, giving an award to who had best contributed to promote the island of Cuba in Italy during year 2005, successfully helping to increase italian tourism toward Cuba.
Besides the best tour operators and airlines who best contributed to promote Cuba in Italy, they have been awarded prizes in the video section and in the specialized press. In this last category, after an exanimation of 12 magazines, has also been awarded Leonardo Olmi for a cover and an article/photo-essay he has published on the 2005 May issue of Mondo Sommerso by the title “Destination Cuba”.
